Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner (JIFP)

Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner FAQ

Q1.How do I access the Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner once my purchase has been completed?

close

If you choose the monthly billing option, you will receive an E-mail with a credit authorization form attached that you must authorize before access to JIFP can be established. Once this step has been completed, an E-mail containing relevant access information will be sent to you automatically. If you choose the annual purchase option, the credit authorization form is not required.

Q2.Will Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner work on a Macintosh?

close

We do not currently support JIFP for Macintosh computers. You can, however, try a program called Virtual PC that may enable JIFP to work on your Mac, but we do not support this program. Get more information about Virtual PC

Q3.Is there a JIFP tutorial available that I can review before using the program?

close

You can view the online tutorial here. JIFP also comes with an extensive, context sensitive online Help system that provides additional instruction and answers to many questions you may have.

Q4.Where can I get a DUATS access code so I can download weather?

close

DTC - http://www.duat.com/form/getaccess.frm | Phone: (800) 243.3828
CSC - http://www.duats.com/duats.cgi | Phone: (800) 345.3828

Q5.Sometimes when I download DUATs weather, the weather overlay drop-down list on the tool bar states: "No DTC/CSC weather graphics" Why is this?

close

JIFP does not support all weather graphic types for overlay on the enroute chart. In general, only NexRad radar and satellite maps will overlay on the map.

Q6.Occasionally when downloading a DUATs briefing or graphic maps, I get a message that says "session terminated prematurely" Why is this?

close

This usually indicates a network problem, a dropped connection, or the DUATs server was busy. This can also be caused by a firewall between your computer and the Internet, especially if this occurs from your office only. Check with your network administrator for possible solutions.

Q7.Does JIFP come with any default aircraft?

close

Our Internet Flight Planner provides access to an online library of 100 pre-built aircraft. These aircraft can be used as is or customized to closely match specific operating parameters of your airplane. You can also build an aircraft model from scratch. Once your preferences are made, your aircraft is saved to the server. Saving your aircraft to the server makes them available if you change computers.

We strongly recommend that you modify an existing aircraft even if it means changing every number. This is because editing an aircraft model similar to yours gives you a feel for how the data is entered for that type of airplane. You also minimize the risk of saving and closing a model with empty or corrupt data fields, which can be difficult to fix.

Q8.Does JIFP allow me to access the AOPA Airport Directory?

close

The primary source of airport data used in JIFP is JeppGuide. JeppGuide is very similar to the AOPA directory for most U.S. airports. However, JIFP does provide a link to the AOPA directory in the Airport Properties dialog box for those who prefer that information source. An AOPA user name and password is required.

Q9.What if I try JIFP then decide that I prefer FliteStar or another flight planning service instead?

close

To initiate the service, you must agree to subscribe for at least 3 full months. However, you may cancel the service at anytime. If you paid for an annual subscription, the balance will be refunded or credited. If you selected monthly billing, charges will stop after 3 full months have been billed (provided you notify of the cancellation prior to the final billing date).

Q10.What can I do if I have problems downloading or using JIFP?

close

We provide users with an extensive, context sensitive online help system that can answer most questions. There is also an extensive Online Tutorial If you can't find the information you need, we also provide free technical support.

Our support technicians can be reached 24 hours, 5 days a week, Monday through Friday.

Q11.What ports do I need to have open to use the available weather providers?

close

If you are behind corporate or personal firewall you will need to have access through the following ports for your weather provider:

  • CSC DUATS access: port 80
  • CSC DUATS access (alternate): port 23
  • DTC DUATS access: port 8096
  • Jeppesen Weather access: port 24901

To set up your firewall settings, contact your Network Administration department or the manufacturer of your firewall.

Q12.Can the Jeppesen Internet Flight Planner be downloaded to or accessed from my PDA?

close

At this time JIFP is not recommended for a PDA.

Q13.How do I import my AOPA Real Time Flight Planner (RTFP) aircraft models and routes into JIFP?

close

Information is not shared between the two applications on the server and there is no export/import functionality. The following are a few suggestions to help copy the information into JIFP. If you would like to copy an aircraft model into JIFP:

  1. Connect to JIFP and RTFP simultaneously.
  2. In RTFP, open the aircraft modeling dialog box and move it to one side of your display.
  3. In JIFP, you can either select a sample model from the database that closely matches yours (recommended), or you can create a new aircraft model. In the appropriate tabs, transcribe the aircraft model information into JIFP.

If you would like to copy the aircraft model into JIFP but cannot connect both applications simultaneously:

  1. Connect to RTFP.
  2. Select the desired aircraft and take a screenshot of the Basic Info and Aircraft Name tab:

    • Press ALT+PRINT SCREEN.
    • Open an image editor application, such as Microsoft© Paint.
    • Press CTRL+V.
    • Click File > Save to save the image to your hard drive.
    • Disconnect from RTFP.
    • Connect to JIFP. You can either select a sample model from the database that closely matches yours (recommended), or you can create a new aircraft model. In the appropriate tabs, transcribe the aircraft model information into JIFP.

To copy your routes from RTFP:

  1. Connect to RTFP and load your route from the server.
  2. Annotate the waypoints in your route from departure to destination.
  3. Connect to JIFP and create a new route (CTRL+F).
  4. In the Plan Route dialog box, enter the departure and destination airport.
  5. If VORs, NDBs, airports, and terminal and enroute fixes are used, in the Route Type drop-down menu, select Plain Language Routing and annotate all the intermediate waypoints separated by a space.
  6. Once you are finished entering the remaining information, click OK.
  7. Use the rubberband feature to make any edits to your route.
