Training Excursions from Washington to Alaska
Captain Jim Kyle, Home Shore

Nobeltec® Admiral™ 7 and Visual Navigation Suite™ (VNS™) 7 Support Discontinuation Notice

Effective February 27, 2009, Jeppesen Marine will discontinue support for Nobeltec Admiral 7 and VNS 7 (this includes all previous versions). As has been Jeppesen Marine's support policy, we will continue to support our current MAX Pro versions, Admiral MAX Pro and VNS MAX Pro, and two most recent releases (versions 8 and 9). This is not a change to our policy, but rather a late adjustment to follow our policy. This notice is being issued to assist our customers and dealers with advanced information.

With an upgrade to our newest release, you’ll have access to the world leader in PC Navigation electronic charts – C-MAP by Jeppesen MAX Pro cartography.

If you’re an Admiral 7 and VNS 7 customer, contact a Jeppesen Marine Dealer or our Jeppesen Sales Team to purchase Nobeltec products, C-Map cartography, or upgrade to Nobeltec MAX Pro software.

Jeppesen Marine provides a number of support downloads to enhance and supplement your navigation software needs. If you are unsure as to which download you require, please contact our technical support department to verify. The updates below (Nobeltec MAX Pro Users) work with Admiral MAX Pro and VNS MAX Pro.

• Admiral MAX Pro Service Pack 2 - this will update Admiral MAX Pro version 10 to version 10.0.2.16
• Admiral MAX Pro Read Me - lists all the optimizations and enhancements in v10.0.2.16

*Please Note: Other versions of Nobeltec Navigation Software products cannot be updated by this download, including beta and pre-release versions. If you have a different version of a Nobeltec product that needs to be updated, please contact Jeppesen Marine at (800) 946-2877 for the proper update.

If you have a Nobeltec Navigation Software product Version 9.0.2002, you must first update to Version 9.0.2178 and then proceed to update to Nobeltec Version 9.3.2240. Tides & Currents will be updated to Version 3.5 (which includes 2007 Daylight Saving Change) only if you are currently running Admiral 9, VNS Version 9, or later. For versions earlier than Admiral or VNS 9.0, users must upgrade to Version 9. Please contact Jeppesen Marine at (800) 946-2877 for upgrade information.

• GPS and/or DVDs: we may ask you to insert your program or chart DVDs as well as connect your GPS to try and troubleshoot any issues.

"I am writing on behalf of Richard Gardner, owner of the motor vessel Deerleap. He would like express his gratitude and share the highlights of the summer cruise and show season.

Between June 5th and October 1st the Deerleep cruised from Port Orchard to the North end of Vancouver Island and back. She was a feature at the shows in Victoria, Vancouver, LaConner, Deer Harbor, and Poulsbo. The visitor count at Victoria alone showed over 2000 guests toured the Deerleap. She was awarded best engine room, and best restored; though at many shows she has won so many of the awards in past years she was not considered in competition. As usual she was an attraction at every stop, not just the boat shows and festivals. Attracted by the grand dame that the Deerleap is, enthusiasts and owners were welcomed aboard and given a tour. With the complex navigation that the inland waterways require, the system used aboard such an old vessel was of great interest. Mr. Gardner could not stress enough the value the MAX Pro system brought to the helm.

Admiral MAX Pro allowed the MV Dearleap to navigate safely and efficiently throughout the length of her cruise. The accuracy, clarity, and completeness of the charts were invaluable. With a draft of 10 feet, cruises of this type would have been extremely difficult for the Deerleap and Mr. Gardner with traditional navigation. The user friendly interface and ease of use freed Mr. Gardner up to focus on the helm, maintain better logs, and be better aware of current weather and ocean conditions. Most surprising this year, a significant fuel savings was realized by making use of the tides and current information when planning his route and schedule. A change of an hour in departure could make an enormous difference in overall cruising speed and fuel usage for the day due to disparity between struggling against the current and moving with it.

Again, Mr. Gardner would like to express his appreciation to you and Jeppesen [Marine] for allowing him to demonstrate Nobeltec Navigation Software during the annual cruise. He is confident that distributors will see additional sales as a result. The cruise and show schedule for next year is already being planned and he looks forward to adding any updates and the WND system to his presentation."
