Overview

Jeppesen proudly sponsors a variety of marine-related events and programs, including:

Plastiki

Plastiki boat in Sydney HarborOn July 26th 2010, four months after sailing under the Golden Gate bridge and out into the vast Pacific Ocean, the vessel Plastiki and her intrepid crew safely arrived in Australia’s Sydney harbor.  This would have been a milestone voyage for any vessel, but it was truly an historical journey for this unique 60-foot sailing catamaran constructed almost entirely of reclaimed plastic drink bottles and other recycled and recyclable materials.

C-MAP by Jeppesen cartography played an important role in this journey, as the company donated all the electronic charts required for use with the crew’s MaxSea PC navigation software.  Visit the Plastiki site for more information.

Alliance for Safe Navigation

Alliance for Safe navigation - logoWe have joined forces with several boating industry leaders to form the Alliance for Safe Navigation. Sponsored by NOAA, the alliance consists of BoatU.S., Jeppesen, the United States Power Squadrons (USPS), OceanGrafix and the Sea Tow Foundation for Boating Safety and Education.

The purpose of the alliance is to raise boater awareness about the importance of having and using the most current navigation information to avoid potential groundings and other accidents. Keeping electronic and paper charts up-to-date is inexpensive and easy. Our goal is to educate the boating community about how quickly their charts can become outdated and how easy it is to keep them current. In addition, we want to encourage them to be aware of the significant and frequent changes that are occurring in their boating area.
For more information go to www.allianceforsafenavigation.org.

Arctic Wandering

Gary Ramos has taken on the incredible goal of being the first person to circumnavigate the North Pole sailing by himself onboard the Arctic Wanderer!

Jeppesen donated all the electronic charts for his trip, which covers the whole Arctic and the Canadian east coast and Norway down to Scotland.

Jimmy Fund Fishing Tournament

Since its founding in 1948, the Jimmy Fund has supported the fight against cancer in children and adults at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for cancer patients around the world.

Jeppesen proudly sponsors the Jimmy Fund Fishing Tournament that is held each year in Osterville, MA, at the height of the area’s fishing season. Organizers at this event help raise thousands of dollars to support the fight against cancer.

Supported by Mellon Bank, it honors the life of Red Sox great and former American League president, Joe Cronin. Cronin, who was both a player and a manager for the Red Sox, was an active supporter of the Jimmy Fund since it was first created in 1948 and a resident of Osterville until his death in 1984.

Osterville Anglers Club

Located on the shores of Crosby Basin, the Osterville Anglers’ Club is a family oriented club, committed to promoting and advancing the sport of recreational fishing. With an active and dedicated membership, the Club sponsors a number of fishing tournaments, social activities and education events throughout the year. What started in the late 1980s as the idea of a small group of local sportsmen – to form a fishing club where the entire family could be involved in angling and other related activities – has evolved into what is today a premiere fishing club on Cape Cod.

In addition to its angling activities, the Osterville Anglers’ Club is active year-round in the local community. A member of the Osterville Business & Professional Association and the IGFA, the OAC provides $2,000 in annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors and college students, supports community environmental groups such as Save Our Sound and Three Bays Preservation, hosts a Mass. Safe Boating Class (every other year) and is a sponsor of such local charity events as the Joe Cronin Memorial Jimmy Fund and Big Brothers Big Sisters Fishing Tournaments.

Jeppesen is a long-standing, proud sponsor of the OAC Tournament Series T-shirt. Jeppesen employees, Kenneth Cirillo and Chris Cox, are very active members who promote safe navigation and offer fishing tips with the use of C-MAP by Jeppesen charts. The t-shirts are offered for sale to members and guests of the club.

Simrad Tournament Boat

Captain Mark Maus

Jeppesen is proud to sponsor top Southern Kingfish Association (SKA) tournament professional Capt. Mark Maus of Sarasota, Florida.  For many years, C-MAP by Jeppesen electronic charts have helped Mark find the fish and stay ahead of the pack in this fast- paced, fiercely competitive sport.   He’s currently fishing from a 34-foot Yellowfin center console powered by three 350-horsepower Mercury Verado outboards, capable of burning across the water at more than 70 mph.   Maus proudly displays the Jeppesen logo as part of the custom “wrap” design on his eye-catching rig.

While going fast is important, knowing where the fish are and how to get there is equally important. That’s why Maus’ boat is equipped with a full array of state-of-the-art Simrad marine electronics — including a GB40 Glass Bridge navigation system running MAX Pro cartography and an NX45 GPS/chart plotter running C-MAP by Jeppesen electronic charts.
