Winter Operations Training for Maintenance and Ground Staff

Business Aviation Training & Flight Crew Training

Introduction

This course will train professional aviation personnel (maintenance technicians, ground staff and airport personnel) on Winter Operations to ensure a practical knowledge to recognize the affects of icing on airplane performance, the use of holdover time tables, the procedures for de-icing and anti-icing aircraft, fluid handling and storage, de-icing and anti-icing equipment, and the types of fluids used for anti-icing/de-icing, and so on.

Regulatory Background

U.S. Regulations: Parts 91 and 135 do not have their own regulations regarding de-icing and anti-icing (Winter Operations) training. They instead refer to the 121 regulations regarding certified training on these topics: The current edition of Advisory Circular (AC) 120-60, Ground Deicing and Anti-Icing Program, provides guidance for obtaining approval of a ground deicing/anti-icing program and discusses the use of HOTs. Part 125, § 125.221, and part 135, § 135.227(b)(3), allow both kinds of certificate holders to comply with a part 121 approved program.

European Regulations: The training content complies with JAA JAR OPS 1.345 which regulates all aspects for the aircraft de-/anti-icing on the ground on a mandatory basis.
