For over 70 years Jeppesen has built its foundation on paper chart services and has set the standard for current, reliable flight information worldwide. The Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) charts provide pilots with the critical navigational flight information to safely and legally fly within the airspace system.  Our chart services are designed for the pilot who requires the most up-to-date enroute, terminal and supplemental information.  Each service starts you off with a complete set of current initial charts for the geographic area you’ve requested.  Your service will then be kept current throughout the next year via updates that vary depending upon the service type you’ve selected.  Select a link below for additional information.

Introduction to Jeppesen Navigation Charts

The chart training guide is published as a service for pilots training with Jeppesen charts. It is intended for reference only and includes some of the most commonly used symbology. Not all symbology is included with this guide. This guide is revised regularly; however, some variance may exist between this guide and current chart service. These may be the result of one or more of the following: chart issuance dates, timely application of changes received from governing agencies and/or the method of representing such information. Some of the charts used in this guide are based on a fictitious location. The chart training guide has been designed as a supplementary training material and is not intended for navigation.

Airway Manual Review

All information within the Standard Airway Manual is filed in the same general sequence.  Below are the specific segmentations in order with a brief description, example or content of each.  (Limited or Special coverage’s may or may not contain all items and may include additional items specific to its purpose.)

Title Page
In the front of each Airway Manual is a “Title Page” indicating the coverage contained within the manual.  On the reverse side of the Title Page the guarantee and copyright information is provided.

Airway Manual Record of Revisions Sheet
Following the Tile Page is the Airway Manual Record of Revisions sheet.  This sheet is used by the customer for recording the filing of revisions (see examples under "Airway Manual" above).

Briefing Bulletins
Notifications of enhancements or changes to the Airway Manual service and charting changes initiated by host governments. Briefing bulletins are included with revision mailings as needed.

Text Section
The Text Section includes supplementary information intended to provide our customers with all the tools necessary for safe flight.  Click on the below links for examples of pages and contents for each section.  These are only examples and may not be complete or current.  An inventory of the standard text sections for Airway Manuals is listed.  Some coverage’s may not contain all items.

Introduction
The Introduction section includes a Chart Glossary, Abbreviations, Enroute Chart Legends for both low and high altitude Enroute charts, an Area Chart Legend, Terminal Control Area (TCA) legend, SID, STAR, and Profile Descent legend, and an Approach Chart Legend.  The legends provide explanations of symbols and codes used on our charts along with other helpful information.

Chart Change Notices
Chart Change Notices are textual notices containing changes to Jeppesen charts not known sufficiently in advance for inclusion on the chart itself.  Since timely notification is essential, the data is published in the form of a Chart Change Notice.  The information is listed as a Chart Change Notice until it appears on a revised chart, or if temporary, until the situation ends.  Chart Change Notices’s are published for both Enroute charts and Terminal charts.  Click on the link below for current Chart Change Notices.

Additional general text information that relates to the Enroute Charts that is not included on in order to reduce the amount of clutter, thereby, increasing the readability of pertinent information.

Enroute Charts (Low, High)
The Enroute charts are offered as high enroute (FL180 or FL200 and above depending on area), low Enroute, or a combination of high/low based on coverage area.  Most of our Enroute charts use the Lambert Conformal Conic projection.  Additional information at the end fold of the Enroute chart may also contain:  Limits and Classifications of Designated Airspace, Communications Tabulations, Part-Time Terminal Airspace Hours, Airspace Restricted areas, as some examples.  All Enroute charts are made with the ZIGDEX indexing system, which allows for easy location of information.

Area Charts
Enlargement of specific areas of Enroute charts.  Used to give a less cluttered view around larger, high-traffic airports.  Includes terrain contours where applicable.

General information used for the terminal charts which is not chart specific.  Includes general Text and Tables which is supplemental to the Terminal charts.

Below are examples of the standard types of charts contained within the terminal section

Terminal/Approach Plates
Approach charts are graphic illustrations of instrument approach procedures prescribed by the governing authority.  These include: ILS, LOC, LDA, SDF, MLS, PAR, RNAV/GPS, VOR, NDB, ASR, Visual. 

Note: a single chart is referred to an “approach chart”; a group of charts, i.e. all charts for Los Angeles, CA are referred to as “Terminal Charts”.

Within the United States, the charts are filed alphabetically by state, and then by city name within each state.  All other regions are filed alphabetically by city only. Military approach charts are not included within our chart services. However, if a customer needs military approaches, they can be ordered separately. Jeppesen only publishes military charts that have been approved for civilian use.

Airports
The airport chart is a graphical lat/long correct representation of the airport including such elements as: runways, taxiways, obstacles, buildings, ground features.  The airport chart is normally printed on the back of the first approach chart in an airport sequence.   Airport charts also additional information such as communications, take-off and alternate minimums, and IFR departure procedures.  Separate airport charts may be included to display detailed ramp and parking positions or low visibility taxiway routes.

SID
ICAO - A designated instrument flight rule (IFR) departure route linking the aerodrome or a specified runway of the aerodrome with a specified point, normally on a designated ATS route, at which the en route phase of a flight commences.

USA – A preplanned instrument flight rule (IFR) traffic control departure procedure printed for pilot use in graphic form.  SID’s provide transition from the terminal to the appropriate en route structure.

Star (Standard Instrument Arrival/Standard Terminal Arrival Route)

ICAO - Graphic illustrations of a designated instrument flight rule (IFR) arrival route linking a significant pint, normally on an ATS route, with a point from which a published instrument approach procedure can be commenced.

USA – A preplanned instrument flight rule (IFR) air traffic control arrival procedure published for pilot use in graphic form.  STAR’s provide transition from the en route structure to an outer fix or an instrument approach fix/arrival waypoint in the terminal area.

Class B Airspace (Terminal Control Area)
These charts depict the horizontal and vertical limits of Class B airspace established by the United States Federal Aviation Administration and provide orientation details for flights operation within the area.  Class B airspace VFR Communications are included.

Qualification and Familiarization Charts
Our Airport Qualification and Familiarization Service provides an innovative means of increasing situational awareness and improving safety. Although primarily designed for airline pilots, corporate and general aviation pilots have also found this service to be extremely useful. It presents an actual photograph of the runway environment, graphical presentation of terrain and other obstacles, and pertinent local traffic information. With this information, a pilot develops a good awareness of the airport environment prior to flying the actual approach. (Selected airports only.) Binders sold separately.

Recurring Electronic Payment
Recurring Electronic Payment (REP) allows you to pay automatically every month with a credit card. Simply set up your service with us and the monthly fee is automatically deducted from your account.  A monthly e-mail notification will be sent informing you of the transaction.
